For ages Latvians have been proud of their pure nature and fertile ground. During your visit and tour of Riga you should definitely try some of local food products - whatever it maybe - dairy, vegetables or even meat.

In Riga there are several places you can find the domestic products offered by farmers.

The first, and surely the most popular, is the Riga Central Market - a  huge marketplace located within five old zeppelin hangars. It is a perfect opportunity for visitors to get off the beaten track and see part of the everyday lives of locals, as well as having the chance to haggle for fruit, vegetables, various trinkets or antiques. However, make sure to keep a tight grip on your possessions, as pickpockets are relatively common here.

On the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the antique and Slow Food market is held in The BERGS BAZAAR, which is a historical pedestrian village-like enclave built between the years 1887-1900 by Kristaps Bergs - one of Latvia's first modern real estate developers. Here you can also find small shops, good restaurants, modern offices and a boutique BERGS Hotel.

Because of a huge demand in the last two years, there are many small shops mushroomed all over the city offering domestic products. One of the most interesting is Tirgus Galerija located in the centre of Riga. This rather small but cosy shop is set to offer domestic products to Rigans and city guests. Tirgus Galerija contains several stands with products offered by local farmers. Here you can find fresh dairy products, meat and vegetables or enjoy some tasty pastry work. The most exciting thing about Tirgus Galerija is its friendly atmosphere. For example, you can chat with the butcher about good recipes for your dinner while having a cup of mild tea!
