Pre Midsummer Festival events
13/06/2010 - 27/06/2010
Place: Riga
Latvian Midsummer Festival is also known as Jāņi or Līgo Svētki. This national holiday celebrated by almost everyone Latvian and consists of various traditions, such as eating Jāņu cheese, drinking beer and singing Latvian folk songs. The most exciting tradition is burning a bonfire to keep a light all through the night and jumping over it. Women usually wear wreaths of flowers, while oak wreaths are worn by men named Jānis (Jānis being Latvian for John) in honor of their name day. Small oak branches with leaves are attached to cars in Latvia during the festivity.
Let us plan you a totally local, natural and responsible holiday in Riga or any other city of Latvia you are interested in. We know the “must see” places and “must do” things, because we are locals inspired by Latvia culture, history, traditions and nature.
